RESTORATION

One of the primary functions of the GWHS is the acquisition and restoration of historic homes and properties. Currently the Society owns three buildings and leases one. At the main campus are the Ralston-McKeen House, the Wolf Academy, and the Monocacy School House. A few miles away is the Siegfried Log Cabin (owned by the Borough of Bath; the GWHS has a 100-year lease on the property).

The restoration committee is currently headed by Dave Mowen and Dalton Semmel. Much of our restoration is done my members, with certain projects handled by outside contractors (approved at board meetings). This is accomplished primarily on our work days, typically one or two Saturdays a month.

PRESERVATION

  • The Committee is planning projects for the upcoming year for the Ralston-McKeen (restoring north end windows and paint removal in the foyer).

  • Wolf Academy exterior drainage around building needs work.

  • The Committee has awarded the shutter painting and installation for the Ralston-McKeen to Stirling Painting.

  • Stirling Painting has also been approved to due plaster restoration and trim work in the fireplace room in the Siegfried Log Cabin.

  • Wolf Academy received new bluestone walkway and steps. The contractor will also be installing a walkway along the rear of the Ralson-McKeen.

  • Our work days are scheduled at 9:00am each Saturday following the monthly meeting, all are welcome.
