Siegfried Log Cabin (circa 1792)

The old log house at the western end of Main Street in Bath (Northampton Co., Pennsylvania)was built by Abraham Siegfried, son of Joseph Siegfried, Sr., circa 1792, making it one of the oldest log cabin homes still standing in the United States.

Abraham built the cabin when he was 28 years old, followig his marriage in 1785 to Maria Dorothea Kutz and move in 1792 to Bath from Maxatawny Twp.(then Philadephia)now Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Abraham was the eigth of nine children, the eldest being Revolutionary War Colonel John Siegfried and brother Capt. Joseph Siegfried, Jr. Their family originally came from Maxatawny Twp., but Abraham and Maria Dorothea moved to join other Moravians (Mennonites)in present-day Bath. Abraham and Maria Dorothea were both buried in the small private Siegfried Cemetery on the north side of what is now Main Street, at the western end of Bath.
